Originally released December 23rd, 2019. In the fifth issue of Memphis Current we talk about the city’s music industry and its pipeline to oblivion with Cities Aviv. We delve into the mystery behind Former Prime Minister of Australia Malcom Fraser’s trouserless encounter with an infamous Memphis motel. We share a drink with bartender Lauren Scearce at the Crosstown Concourse’s Art Bar. We get a look at the Hustle & Dough with founder Ali Rohrbacher, a first of its kind sourdough bakery in the lobby of the new Arrive Hotel on South Main. We take a tour through the Coliseum, which famously housed concerts and sporting events for the better part of the past century. We learn about the Wolf River and its importance to Memphis. We hear environmental sculptor Bernhard Meck’s story of how he ended up in Memphis, along with some insight into his work. And last, but certainly not least, we feature the work of some of Memphis’ finest artists, including Marcus Menefee, Juan Rojo, Emily Hogan, Robert Burns, Lauren Fogg and others. We hope you enjoy the fifth issue of Memphis Current as much as we enjoyed creating it.
